The USDA 1890 National Scholars Program awards scholarships to high school seniors to attend any of the nineteen 1890 Land Grant Historically Black Institutions in agriculture, food, natural resource sciences or other related disciplines.
 
The USDA 1890 National Scholars Program will provide full tuition, employment, employment benefits, fees, books, and room and board each year for up to four years to students pursuing a bachelor's degree at the following universities: 

  • Alabama A&M University
  • Alcorn State University, Mississippi
  • Central State University, Ohio
  • Delaware State University
  • Florida A&M University
  • Fort Valley State University, Georgia
  • Kentucky State University
  • Langston University, Oklahoma
  • Lincoln University, Missouri
  • North Carolina A&T State University
  • Prairie View A&M University, Texas
  • South Carolina State University
  • Southern University, Louisiana
  • Tennessee State University
  • Tuskegee University, Alabama
  • University of Arkansas Pine Bluff
  • University of Maryland Eastern Shore
  • Virginia State University
  • West Virginia State University

 
The scholarship may be renewed each year contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and normal progress toward the bachelor's degree.
 
Eligible students must be U.S. citizens, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, have been accepted at one of the 1890 HBCUs, study agriculture, food, natural resource sciences or other related academic disciplines, demonstrate leadership and community service.

Connectional Lay Leaders, Carl Davis (10th District) and

Reginald McGill (11th District) attended the swearing in of the 114th Congress

on January 6, 2015 at the United Stated Capital. They were in attendance at

the Congressional Black Caucus Swearing in ceremony where they sworn in

their newest members and the new Chairman Congressman G. K. Butterfield

of North Carolina and other officers.

They then joined their members Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX)

and Congresswoman Corrine Brown (D-FL) in the Chambers where the

Dean of the Congress, Congressman John Conyers who was first elected in

1965 officiated the swearing in ceremony for all members of Congress.

Piece of Peace by Lionel Merritt,

a member of the Bahamas Conference (11th Episcopal District). Lionel Merritt is a former Director of Lay Activities of the Bahamas Conference, and has done training workshops at the local, district, and connectional levels.

In his book he shares insights on how people can bring God's perfect peace into their lives.  The book is available from AuthorHouse Publishers online bookstore (www.authorhouse.com) in both paperback ($19.95) and E book formats ($3.99).  It will be a blessing to all who are interested in living a more peaceable life.
