Rev. Albert D. Tyson III, President of the Connectional Presiding Elders' Council Dies

The Rev. Albert D. Tyson III served as the Presiding Elder of the North District of the Chicago Annual Conference in the 4th Episcopal District.

In the past, he been Assistant Minister to the Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jersey City, New Jersey; Assistant Minister to the Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Evanston, Illinois; and Pastor to the Saint James African Methodist Episcopal Church in Elgin, Illinois; Pastor to the Saint Stephen African Methodist Episcopal Church.

He was elected in 2019 as the President of the Connectional Presiding Elders' Council of the AME Church. He also represented the AME Church in a variety of ecumenical capacities including the Pan-Methodist Commission and the World Methodist Council.

He was a Lifetime Member of the NAACP and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Reverend Tyson received his bachelor's degree from Newark State College in Union, New Jersey, and his master's degree from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois.

Rev. Tyson died on June 21, 2019, in Chicago, Illinois. He is survived by his wife, Robin, his two children, Albert IV, and Annjeanette and 2 grandchildren.
